The 31st Fire Nation Company, also known as the 31st, was the legendary Fire Nation unit of Captain and later Commander Macai. The 31st Company was a unique marine/shock trooper company that specialized at conducting swift offensive strikes. This company was stationed on the Prompt Adjudicator, which was Macai's personal naval destroyer. The Prompt Adjudicator was designed to be a faster and lighter version of the average Fire Nation cruiser.
However, the Prompt Adjudicator was still larger than Zuko's old ship. Macai trained his marines diligently and taught them how to fight at night as well as day. Macai prepared his soldiers for several drills. Macai trained his nonbenders to fight against benders. Macai's marines were known for their increased bravery, unity, discipline, and skill. The average archer in Macai's unit was said to be equal to the average three standard Fire Nation army archers.
Appearance[]
Macai's first class privates were known for having bronze collars. Macai's second lieutenants had silver collars. Macai's Captains Rosh and Hazo had gold collars. Like his Captains, Macai had a gold collar. Although Hazo was a Captain, Macai did not have authority over him nor did Hazo outrank him. Hazo had a special role as an advisor and guide for Macai. Hazo could offer recommendations for Macai, but Macai was not obligated to follow his guidance. Despite this, Macai rarely went against Hazo's recommendations.
Macai allowed all of his officers to have their own customizable armor and gave them options to not wear their helmets.

Legacy[]
The 31st Company was featured on several famous Fire Nation posters. They were a symbol of hope for many Fire Nation troopers. Many ordinary troopers related more to the 31st than Zuko, Azula, Ozai, and members of the Fire Nation royal family. Though Macai was a noble, he was seen as a relatable noble who understood the commoners. Many iconic members of Macai's unit; Kett, Kanna, and Dade were not of noble descent. They were also one of the most feared units. Members of the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes often trembled upon the mentioning of the unit.
