Aiya was Macai's trusted administrative specialist. During the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Aiya was 18 years old. Aiya had severed for a year by the time Macai was assigned as the new commanding officer of her unit. Aiya was a nonbender and was not known for her combat skills. Instead, she was known for her tactical foresight, strategic insights, accounting skills, management skills, and communication skills.
Aiya was a second lieutenant when Captain Macai was assigned to her unit. She was officially his second-in-command in general. However, Kett was his second-in-command on the field. Aiya had average dueling skills and combat skills incase she was forced to fight in a battle. Aiya also had dipolmatic skills that she could use to work with political figures. Aiya understood the press and was entrusted with many public relations duties for the organization. Aiya made all of the real decisions regarding public relations, however Macai remained the face of the 31st company.
The public relations aspect of the unit would become increasingly popular as the 31st company's success blossomed. While Macai was her direct leader, she could also take orders from Captain Hazo. Captain Hazo wasn't officially the leader of the 31st company. However, he had some authority as an advisor. Aiya only needed to take orders from Hazo if Macai entrusted authority to Hazo over Aiya. In most cases, Aiya didn't have to follow Hazo's recommendations. However, Aiya had immense respect for Hazo and rarely went against his experience.
Personality
Aiya was a upbeat, daring, and polite young woman. She followed her orders, but was willing to offer points if she didn't agree with her commanding officers.
