Avatar: Macai's Journey Wiki

The Avatar: Macai's Journey Timeline (also called the AMJ timeline) signifies the order of several Manon events. Manon means official events in AMJ's storyline. For instance, events that took place in the live action Avatar television series are not Manon and have no baring on this universe. The timeline gives a nice idea of when things happened.

Destruction of the Air Nomads

Before going into that, we will start by identifying what these terms mean:

  • BG= Before the Air Nomad Genocide
  • AG= After the Air Nomad Genocide

The destruction of the Air Nomads was an essential event in the Avatar universe that set off what happened in the Avatar: The Last Airbender television show. Keep in mind, this list focus more on certain specific events and is currently not made the scale the earliest or latest events in the Avatar universe. For a better idea of that, check out the Avatar Wiki's canon timeline.

First Age of the Avatar (9,829 BG- 171 AG)

The Avatar is a spiritual warrior who unifies the world during a time of great turmoil. This being can be male or female and has an ability to call on the aid of all the past Avatars before him/her. Humans began to interact with a group of powerful spiritual beings called the lion turtles.

The groups at some point fell into war against each other and a young man named Wan looked to intervene in the conflict. Wan was granted his powers by the Lion Turtles but he ultimately did not stop the fighting. A cycle then begins from his passing.

Laghima

3,829 BG: Year of the Rabbit

An Air Nomad named Laghima learns how to fly and his philosophical rival Shoken assets that Humans should be able to do as they please without being bond to moral codes. The future Air Nomad society eventually follows Laghima's beliefs. After Laghima dies the Fire Nation, Water Tribe, and Earth Kingdom begin to form.

9,829BG-8,300 BG: Era of Wisdom

  • Wan Shi Tong's Library is brought from the Spirit World to the physical realm.
  • People from the Earth Kingdom learn the art of earthbending from badgermoles, firebenders learn firebending from dragons, and water tribes learn waterbending by studying the pull of the moon on the ocean tides.
  • A group of waterbenders construct a city of ice within the Water Tribe to unite the groups that live around the North Pole. These waterbending groups form a unified Water Dynasty.

8,285-8,281 BG: The Breaking of a Dynasty

  • After an infamous case of betrayal, the Water Dynasty disrupts into war and is split into two tribes. The Water Dynasty Sultan is ultimately betrayed by his brother who looked to take his title and openly undermined his competence. The Northern Tribe is ultimately victorious in the conflict, but it is nearly a pyrrhic victory. The names of the leaders are changed from Sultans to Grand Chieftains due to the return to tribal status.
  • Relations between the tribe were later healed and they would come together during annual New Moon celebrations.

8,279-8,274 BG: A Great Rotation

  • An inner conflict in the new Southern Water Tribe leads to a group of water people embarking on a pilgrimage into the Earth Kingdom.
  • This group of travelers find the Foggy Swamp and become comfortable with the large amount of water in the area. These travelers settle, forming the Foggy Swamp Tribe.
  • Elsewhere, the Sun Warrior civilization flourishes and other Fire Islands are influenced by their culture. This leads to a spread in the practice of firebending.
Kemurikage spirit

8,269-8,259 BG: The Ten-Year Struggle

  • Warlords from scattered Fire islands brutally battle each other. One warlord named Toz orders the abduction of all children of the village that refused to give him tribute. These youth were never seen again, causing their mothers to die from sadness and become Kemurikage spirits.
  • The spirits retaliated by taking the children from the warlord which led to collapse of his regime as his soldiers deserted dur to fear of the dark spirits.
  • Several Fire Sages, Earth Sages, and Northern Water Tribe sages began to gather at a mysterious island to discuss ways to reduce spiritual strife and to collect knowledge during times of disparity. These sages made several clues and paths that were meant to guide new young heroes while hiding their greatest treasures.

8,258-8,253: The Unification Wars

  • A leader named Navo Tom manages to defeat the remaining Fire Nation warlords and makes them stand trial at court where they are rightfully convicted. These actions led to the unification of the Fire Islands into the Fire Nation. Navo Tom becomes the first Firelord and leader of all the Fire Sages.
  • The Firelord had a more political role while Fire Sages were looked to as advisors and for spiritual guidance of national affairs.

7,531 BG: Omashu is created

  • Oma founds the city of Omashu after the passing of her lover Shu.

5,218 BG: Ba Sing Se is built as a subterranean mining settlement.

4,722 BG: Cojoined twin king Hundun and his brother were thwarted by Avatar Intan.

4,714 BG: The King of Ba Sing Se becomes the Earth King and leader of the nation. The Earth King passes on his leadership to his descendants while a few cities, provinces, and municipalities deviate from this practice.

4,702-4,628 BG: Avatar Salai is born and is remembered as one of the greatest Avatars of all time. He passes away at the age of 74 from a mysterious illness.

3,915-3,836 BG: Avatar Gun is born and helps save the world. He temporarily retires due to the death of his companion Mesose in 2,987 but returns to service by 2,983.

3,338-3,243 BG: Avatar Rong Yan's legacy begins. Yan intervenes during a time where the Earth Kingdom is divided into different competing kingdoms.

303 BG-423 BG: Avatar Szeto is born in the Fire Nation. A major crisis threatens his home country, and he becomes an official in the Fire Nation government. Szeto puts an end to the conflict between noble clans and restores the economy of his nation. Szeto lives for a whopping 120 years.

423 BG-345 BG: Era of Yangchen

  • Avatar Yancheng becomes Avatar after Szeto's passing. Yangchen is born at the Western Air Temple. The Fire Nation and Water Tribes conspire to financially back General Nong to overthrow the reigning Earth King, Feishan. Feishan defeats Nong and closes his nations ports to the other countries.
  • The Fire Nation and Water Tribes declare similar states of isolation as they follow the Earth Kingdom's precedent. As demands increase for imports, these countries eventually come together for limited trade agreements.
  • Yangchen eventually embarks on spiritual missions, during one mission Yangchen's sister Jetsun was killed in the spirit realm. She was honored a hero for making way for Yangchen to return to the physical realm.
  • A group of benders named Yingsu, Xiaoyun, and Thapa develop a new power called combustionbending.
  • Yangchen continues her spiritual and physical political endeavors to keep the world at peace.

345 BG-312 BG: Avatar Kuruk succeeds Yangchen and resolves several conflicts between the spirits and Humans. Due to his focus on the spirit realm, he is not able to undermine some key issues between different Human parties. Kuruk had it rough. His lover Ummi was taken by Koh the Face Stealer.

Kuruk spent the rest of his time trying to pursue this enemy but died at 33 from spiritual illness.

312 BG-82 BG: Avatar Kyoshi rises to power and lives for 230 years. Kyoshi creates the Dai Li, Kyoshi warriors, formers Kyoshi Island, and defeats Chin the Conqueror. A false Avatar named Yun rises and falls.

82 BG-0 BG: Roku's Time

  • After Kyoshi's passing, Avatar Roku is born. Firelord Sozin is born on the same day.
  • The Air Nomads abandon their isolationist policy of staying out of international affairs.
  • Air Nomad teachings and philosophies become popular in the Fire Nation where they are supported by nobility.
  • Air Nomads have a moral discomfort with supporting ruling classes due to their common materialist views as well as some gripes with their societal structure. However, some see it as an opportunity to impact society by reaching potent leaders.
  • The Southern Water Tribe reaches an age of prosperity.
  • A famous Fire Nation marquess named Mokob gives up everything he has to the less fortunate and uses it to combat inequality. He becomes a hero and openly speaks against problems within the class structure.
  • The Fire Nation becomes a hub of innovation as it starts to industrialize.
  • In the late 60s, Earth King Jialun uses the Dai Li to abolish the Earth Sages whom he sees as a threat to his influence and control.
  • Queen Guo Xun of Omashu becomes strongly opposed to the Earth King. Ba Sing SE and Omashu start to compete for power.
  • The hero Langzi rises and brings corrupt people to justice.
  • Roku prevents a conflict between the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes due to a major tsunami that took place and damaged territory within both countries.
  • An advanced Fire Nation fleet coal-powered fleet with steal vessels creates demand for more resources. Increasing competition between the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation.
  • Sozin starts to organize dragon hunts, which will eventually lead to their near extinction.
  • Sozin begins to militarize as he looks to conquer territories from the Earth Kingdom and Roku checks him by easily beating him up and threatening to kill him if he doesn't follow peace regulations. Sozin becomes compliant.
  • During a massive volcanic eruption in a Fire Nation island, Roku holds back the eruption long enough for villagers to escape. While this happens, he eventually is weakened by the smoke from the lava. Sozin notices Roku who asks for his help but Sozin abandons him and leaves him to die.

12 BG: Avatar Aang is born.

  • The Sun Warriors go into isolation as they notice spirituality is being abandoned in their nation. Science starts to become praised as the key to success.
  • Several years later Aang meets another boy named Bumi who he becomes good friends with.

0 BG- 100 AG: Hundred Year War (main conflict of AMJ and ATLA)

  • Aang runs away after being separated from his mentor Gyatso, but accidentally freezes himself in a block of ice during a rough storm.
  • Sozin tracks the Avatar cycle and realizes the next Avatar will be born in the Air Nomad civilization. To avoid being defeated by another Avatar, he orders his military to attack their society during a comet which enhances firebending abilities.
  • Air Nomads who survive the attack and hunted down and wiped out.
  • The Sozin wages war on the Earth Kingdom and Water Tribes promptly after.

15 AG: The Fire Nation fails to invade the Northern Water Tribe. Sparking deep resentment between them and Fire Nation officials. Several Fire Nation troops and uniforms are captured.

19 AG

20 AG

  • Sozin dies at 102. Firelord Azulon takes the throne.

27-32 AG: Suppression of the East

  • Fleets protecting the Eastern Water Tribe are used to ambush and hit certain key Fire Nation routes. This is done in conjunction with the Earth Kingdom until the Fire Nation mobiles and neutralizes these routes. The Fire Nation quickly blockades the Eastern Water Tribe and bombards its shoreline.
  • Shortly after, Fire Nation forces siege the Eastern tribe with bold attacks and eventually conquer the island.

36-38 AG: Voyage to the West

  • The Western Water Tribe lacks a fleet but some ships from the Southern Tribe travel west when they need to escape or in order to get in position for new attacks. This only works for a season until the Fire Nation brings a massive fleet that destroys the ships harbored outside of the Western Tribe.
  • The Fire Nation sweeps past the Western Tribe for a while since it lacks naval production capacity but plans to return at a later time.

39 AG: Jeong Jeong is born.

40 AG: Time of Desepration

  • The Northern and Southern Water Tribe navies are completely destroyed by the Fire Nation after a series of large battles. The Norther retreats behind icy defenses but the South is left unprotected.
  • The Fire Nation starts to raid the Southern Water Tribe and destroys its cities. The Fire Nation captures waterbenders from this region and soon only a handful of waterbenders from that region are left. These southern benders are forced into exile.

53 AG: Return to the West

  • After ravaging the Southern Water Tribe, the Fire Nation sends several units to clear out the Western Water Tribe and access timber located in the large forest interior of the island.
  • The Wester Water Tribe members use their environment to their advantage and flank and ambush the Fire Nation troops.
  • As the winter sets in, the fight becomes one sided and the Fire Nation is overwhelmed.

64 AG: Ursa is born.

73-79 AG: Vengeful Strike on the West

  • The Fire Nation returns again with a series of deadly attacks, but this time is more economical about its strikes. Smaller and more skilled teams eat away at the villages. The campaign takes a heavy toll on both forces an the Fire Nation stays longer than intended.
  • 80% of Western Water Tribe bender are skilled and a third of the population is wiped out. This makes the people and survivors especially hardened.
  • Fire Nation forces are eventually redirected for an important attack in the Earth Kingdom.

82 AG

  • Hahn is born.
  • Kett is born.
  • Dade is born.

83 AG

  • Zuko is born to Prince Ozai and Princess Ursa.

84 AG

  • Princess Yue is born to Chief Arnook of the Northern Water Tribe as a sickly infant. Yue was said to have been healed by the Moon Spirit.
  • Macai is born to General Eyre and Yosari.
  • Rosh is born.
  • Sokka is born..

85 AG

  • Princess Azula is born to Firelord Ozai and Ursa.
  • Katara is born to Chief Hakoda and Kya of the Southern Water Tribe.
  • Mai is born to Ukano and Michi.
  • Ty Lee is born.

88 AG

  • Toph Beifong is born to Lao Beifong and Poppy Beifong of Gaoling.

90 AG

  • Macai meets Azula. The duo quickly find a liking to each other.
  • Rosh meets Ty Lee and they develop a crush.

94 AG

  • Iroh starts his legendary Siege of Ba Sing Se.
  • The Southern Raiders viciously attacked the Southern Water Tribe in an attempt to kill the last Southern waterbender. Chief Hakoda's wife Kya lied and said it was her when it was really her daughter Katara.
  • Rosh fights Azula and loses.
  • Ty Lee breaks up with Rosh after Azula lies on him.

95 AG

  • Iroh breaks through the outer wall of Ba Sing Se.
  • Iroh's son Lu Ten is killed in action causing Iroh to end his siege and pull back.
  • Ursa works with Ozai to kill Firelord Azulon so Zuko's life is spared from his punishment.
  • Ozai becomes the Firelord and Iroh is shamed for his defeat. Ursa flees from the Fire Nation and takes on a new identity.
  • Raggus Praxus and his allies successfully oust Fire Nation occupants from Eggar's Island.

96 AG:

  • Prince Zuko is banished and told he can't return until after he captures the Avatar.
  • Ozai thwarts an attempt on his life.

97 AG:

  • Ursa marries Iken as "Noren".
  • Macai is forced to move to from the Fire Nation Capital to Nyarri in a military program for an unknown reason. Macai becomes friends with commoners Kett, Dade, and Kanna. He also makes new enemies such as Uriah and Alev.
  • Eyre sends Hazo to train Macai for his final year.
  • Macai's mother Yosari, combats class inequalities within Nyarri. Yosari has already actively been doing this in the Fire Nation Capital which is a hidden reason Ozai wanted her to leave. By saying Macai needed to go to a program elsewhere, he knew Yosari would go too. Ozai speculated Yosari's old friend Ursa did this along with her under his nose years ago.
  • Ozai, Goshal, and the Intelligence Department secret deem Yosari's actions as threating against the Fire Nation.
  • Crazy Oktai trains Dade to become a skilled duelist.
  • Macai wins the Nyarri and National Fire Nation Tournaments.

98 AG

  • Macai graduates from school and is assigned as the captain of the Prompt Adjudicator due to nepotism. Macai reports under Commander Kenshin but is more directly advised by Senior Captain Hazo. Aiya is his administrative specialist.
  • Macai trains his unit very rigorously, like how his father trained him.
  • Macai and his 31st Company win a series of small-scale battles and skirmishes against a variety of enemies which steadily builds up their reputation.
  • Macai defeats Raggus Praxus at Eggar's Island and reoccupies the territory.
  • The 31st Company fights a society and culture based around combustion benders (located in Wyju Valley) who want autonomy from the Fire Nation. Several combustion benders are terminated by Macai's unit. Macai captures the Elder Council of this society and detains them.
  • With help from Kenshin, Macai and the 31st (including Kanna, Cosal, and Samira) take down an Earth Kingdom force at Sarchanna.
  • Macai sends Kett to lead a force with Kanna, Dade, Rosier, Cosal, and others to deal with strange activity on the outskirts of Sarchanna. The team ends up fighting monsters called Umbo and a cult (Serma's Watchmen) led by a man named Tanto. Tanto and his allies are defeated.

99 AG

  • Avatar Aang is woken up by a block of ice.
  • The 31st continues to grow in power as they win several medium and large-scale battles against fortified Earth Kingdom and Water Tribe forces.
  • Macai defeats General Gambo at Herrona. A large force of Earth Kingdom troopers attempt to retake it but are defeated. Kenshin is slain in the process and his rank is transferred to Macai making him a commander.
  • Zuko and Zhao become rivals as both compete to capture the Avatar.
  • Zuko raids Kyoshi Island in an attempt to capture Aang and burns down the local village. This inspires Kyoshi Warriors to assist the Earth Kingdom in the Hundred Year War.
  • Macai beats and captures the Silent Sisters who try to ambush him.
  • Rosh graduates from school and joins the 31st Company. To Kett's annoyance, Macai immediately makes him a captain.
  • The Battle of Rongor takes place and Major Hannock is defeated by Kett. Rosier is killed in battle.
  • During the winter solstice, Avatar Roku informs Aang that Sozin's Comet will arrive by summer's end and that he must defeat Ozai before its arrival.
  • Fire Sages are accused of treason and are imprisoned by Admiral Zhao.
  • Macai's mother Yosari is assassinated by a team of Fire Nation extremists. Macai hunts the organization down and slaughters an entire camp of them.
  • Aang trains with Katara.
  • Jarue, Serraj, and Kaft manage an unlikely victory over the 31st Company as they prevent Macai, Kanna, and Samira from collecting rare Yuvi crystals. Macai is then ordered to burn down Jarue and Kaft's village.
  • The village Gaipan is destroyed by Jet's Freedom FIghters and villagers flee with the help of Team Avatar.
  • Azula graduates early from school along with her friends Ty Lee and Mai.

100 AG: The Way of the Tide

  • Aang trains with Jeong Jeong who is forced to flee when Zhao attacks his camp with a grand army.
  • The Fire Nation is defeated at the battle for the Northern Air Temple by the Avatar's team and thanks to a brilliant invention made by Sokka.
  • Macai and the 31st Company clear out a fortified Water Tribe fortress but Kett is captured and taken by Sada during an ambush.
  • A Fire Nation army invades the Northern Water Tribe but is defeated by Aang and the Ocean Spirit. Yue gives her life to keep the Moon spirit alive after being wounded by Zhao. Zuko defeats Zhao and Iroh defects.
  • Rosh and Kanna Foloki set a trap where they manage to capture Jarue, Serraj, and Kaft. The team is shipped back to a Fire Nation occupied territory as the Fire Nation retreats from the Northern Water Tribe.
  • Zuko and Iroh are wanted as traitors.
  • Macai violates orders to find his friend Kett but ultimately fails and is reprimanded by Fire Nation Command and Intel Director Goshal.

100 AG: The Fire Nation's High Moment

  • Princess Azula recruits Ty Lee and Mai to help her hunt down Aang.
  • Aang starts training in earthbending with Toph.
  • Azula tries to break Ba Sing Se's wall with a giant drill but is defeated by Aang. Azula and her allies escape then regroup.
  • Zuko becomes conflicted in his identity.
  • Azula topples Ba Sing Se from within by using the Dai Li to stage a coup. Several Earth Kingdom generals are captured by the agents.
  • Several Earth Kingdom Commandos battle Dai Li agents as they look to defend their superiors. The Dai Li are ultimately victorious in these fights, but a few commandos manage to evacuate some generals and ward off the agents after them. These commandos link up with other agents in other provinces as they look to gather a counterforce.
  • Iroh is imprisoned by Princess Azula and the Dai Li.
  • Aang is killed by Azula but is brought back to like from Katara's spirit water. Team Avatar escapes.
  • Azula gives Zuko credit for killing Aang and Ozai allows him to return with honor.
  • Macai, Captain Rosh, and Lieutenant Foloki defeat Colonel Shi, Captain Thire, Captain Tarackulus, and Major Varsha all around this time. Captain Apenko is also beaten but he escapes.
  • Azula brakes up with Macai after a heated argument and her success begins to get to her head.
  • Macai and the 31st go on a mission where they orchestrate the assassination of Aven, an Earth Kingdom freedom fighter.
  • Azula goes to Ember Island to celebrate her victory with Zuko, Ty Lee, and Mai. Azula desperately dates Chan as she looks to replace Macai but her desperation and zeal for power scares him away.
  • Macai, Kanna, and Rosh work together as they take down a heavily fortified Earth Kingdom high-altitude fortress.
  • A Fire Nation force led by Colonel Yuzin and Major Hakon takes over Omashu. King Bumi is captured.
  • Captain Rosh successfully takes down General Ren's Mountain base from within.

100 AG: Uprising

  • Macai, Rosh, and Kanna go on a mission to capture the Vindicated Avenger, Sada, and the earthbender Tyson. Kanna knocks out Tyson, but Sada bests her. The Vindicated Avenger fights Macai and his identity is revealed as Kett. Macai rages while Kett escapes. Kanna cries at the realization.
  • Team Avatar, the Earth Kingdom, and the Water Tribe learn that firebenders lose their powers during Eclipses. Bumi uses such an occurrence to escape from captivity and retake control of his city.
  • Iroh escapes from the Capital City Prison but is met by surprise by Macai, Kanna Foloki, and Rosh. Iroh uses his experience and talent to best all of them.
  • Zuko defects from the Fire Nation and joins team Avatar. Zuko uses lightning redirection which was taught to him by Iroh to redirect Ozai's lightning when his father tries to kill him.
  • Zuko trains Aang in the art of firebending and the duo discover the Sun Warriors together. Sokka helps Team Avatar defeat a dangerous combustion bender.
  • Team Avatar rescues Suki from the Boiling Rock Prison, cause a riot, and escape. During this incident, Azula nearly prevents them from getting away from Mai turns on her allies so Zuko can escape. Azula threatens to kill her but is ambushed by Ty Lee when she tries. Azula cries and has her old friends imprisoned.
  • Firelord Ozai crowns himself Phoenix King as he prepares his last great attack against the Earth Kingdom. Azula is set to be crowned Firelord, but is disappointed that she cannot rule above or at least equally to his position for putting so much ground in to take Ba Sing Se and best Aang.
  • Macai is given a letter from Iroh and Zuko which mentions his background and how his mother's execution was really orchestrated by the Intelligence Department. It was also authorized by Ozai.
  • Macai travels to an intelligence facility where he verifies this information but also beats up several intel workers and kills Intel Captain Pion. A large force of Fire Nation soldiers capture Macai, but Kanna Foloki and a press member arrive as witnesses.
  • Ozai sentences Macai to be executed but Rosh rescues Macai and the duo escape as Azula chases them.
  • Kanna Foloki, Samira, Dade, and several loyal members pledge to stand by Macai. They capture disapproving members of the 31st and kick them out of the ship.
  • Commander Asad is made the new leader of the 31st and Ronin is made a captain under him.
  • The Order of the White Lotus gather to Liberate Ba Sing Se, but Asad's unit is secretly deployed to ambush and crush them from behind.
  • Macai and his loyal allies battle Asad's force. Director Goshal joins the battle with his Intel Troopers. Rosh beats Asad, Macai bests Goshal, Kett routs Ronin, Dade kills his old ally Basin, and a pair of Intel Troopers kill Samira. Dade, Sonna, and other allies manage to beat the Intel Troopers and other marines.
  • Iroh and his allies break though Ba Sing Se's wall as they defeat the Fire Nation forces around them.
  • Aang defeats Ozai. Zuko is winning a duel against a mentally unstable Azula, but the Princess maims him by cheating. Katara takes down Azula and restrains her.
  • Aiya and a few 31st crew members are nearly killed in a grand battle at sea but are nearly overwhelmed until Aang manages to rescue them while being in the Avatar state.
  • Zuko becomes the new Firelord and works with Aang to make a new era of peace. Zuko kisses Mai and Katara kisses Aang.
