Ba Sing Se, was the Capital of the Earth Kingdom. It was a large sprawling desert city and is the largest city in the Avatar world during the timeline of the Hundred Year War and for much of this universe's history.

History[]
For years, Ba Sing Se's massive walls held off invaders. It was the site of the legendary General Iroh's defeat after a long 600 day Siege where he lost his son Lu-Ten. Being such a large city, Ba Sing Se had many rich, middle class, and poor people scattered throughout it. The poorer parts had high crime rates including robberies, home invasions, the selling of illegal spices, underground fight clubs, street gangs, carriage raiders, and black market weapons trading.
Tournaments[]
The city held numerous tournaments. Some were underground while others were professional. The biggest differences were regulation procedures, the price of tickets to see events, the age of people allowed to watch fights, and the maximum permitted duration of fights. Underground fights could get a lot more wild regarding what happened. They could have one fight twenty opponents if desired though this was rarely done with professional events unless made on special request by key government leaders.
Government[]
Ba Sing Se was the center of key government facilities in the Earth Kingdom. It was home to the Earth monarchs who were protected by the Dai Li. The Dai Li were an elite group of national security agents created by the Avatar Kyoshi between 270 and 82 years before the Air Nomad genocide. While it did not hold all the military bases, outputs, and facilities it had many of the most important ones. Vital political chambers were located in the city. Many elites lived in the nicer parts of the city where were segregated from the poorer ones. These areas were well protected by high quality police. Because important government representatives were in this city.
Pride[]
The locals from Ba Sing Se were known for taking pride in their region. Many other Earth Kingdom members see their citizens as snobs. The city had many notable festivals, fashion shows, and parades.
Fall[]
Ba Sing Se was annexed by the Fire Nation after the Fire Nation Princess Azula successfully orchestrated a coup using the Dai Li, Ba Sing Se's Secret Police Service, to put the Earth Kingdom's Royal Family on house arrest.
Liberation[]
Towards the end of the war, a group of powerful philosophers known as the White Lotus destroyed the Fire Nation army that occupied the city. While this happening, a combined fleet of Earth Kingdom, Water Tribe, and defected Fire Nation United Way ships engaged the Fire Nation fleet outside of the city. The Fire Nation was winning the naval battle and the United fleet was all but destroyed until Aang assisted them and destroyed several Fire Nation vessels.
