Cosal was a minor character in Avatar: Macai's Journey. He was a nonbender and a swordsman who proudly served in the 31st Company.
Backstory
Cosal was a veteran and one of the oldest members of the 31st company. By the end of the Hundred Year War, Cosal had served in the Fire Nation military for 35 years. The veteran initially started later than many other soldiers, when he was 20 years old. At the time, the local economy in his town went down after a major hurricane swept through it and destroyed many local businesses. The lack of opportunity also increased crime in his village. At that time Cosal was single, wasn't in any romantic relationship, and was still trying to find his way in life. He noticed a military poster and promptly joined.
For his first 25 years of service, he was a member in the army. Cosal was known for her loyalty, prudence, social skills, and ability to follow instructions. His commanding officer Major Chenko signed Cosal up for a special opportunity to be an officer in a new amphibious shock trooper program. Cosal was honored and took the opportunity. Cosal was then placed under command of Commander Kenshin who led the 52nd Regiment. As part of that regiment, Cosal was a member of the 31st Company which at the time was led by Captain Rosuken.
For the next 7 years, not much changed. On the 8th year, Rosuken was killed in battle and a female commanding officer named Luda was assigned to lead the regiment. She had a privileged background and was not able to deal with the pressures of her position. After a few weeks of serving and a disastrous first battle she quit and was exiled. For a couple of months, the 31st was grounded and had no missions. A few temporary officers went with the team on minor raids and patrols another few weeks. During this time, Aiya was selected as an administrative assistant to help build up the company which still didn't have any long-term leadership.
Macai's Journey
Soon after, Commander Macai was assigned to the unit then the rest was history. Macai completely rebuilt, revitalized, and retrained the company to ridiculous levels. As Macai looked to reform the unit, he looked to veterans like Cosal and Rosier to guide him as well as some younger experienced members like Samira. Cosal shared priceless knowledge with Macai throughout battles and sometimes he had discussions with Hazo regarding how to best guide Macai. Cosal was also a leading member at 31st discussions and strategic sessions.
