Ozai's Angels was a title that referred to Princess Azula's strike team which reported directly under Ozai. The team was commissioned by Azula after Iroh easily dispatched Azula's section (a unit that was larger than a squad but smaller than a platoon). Mai and Ty Lee proved to be more useful allies due to their specific talents but would sometimes still work with squads of troops or elite troopers commanded by Azula. The team's greatest achievement was their infiltration and coup of Ba Sing Se.
Ozai's Angels were rivals to Team Avatar during the final year of the Hundred Year War. After the fall of Ba Sing Se to the Fire Nation, national posters showed images of the trio standing proudly together over the corpse of Aang and several Earth Kingdom troopers.
Azula
Azula was the leader of the squad and most lethal member. Azula was known for her boldness, arrogance, brilliance, adaptability, coldness, and haughty nature. Azula had the ability to control (bend) blue flames and generate lightning. The firebending princess was manipulative and took advantage of her other team members to maintain her dominance. Azula often used intimidation, creativity, confusion, flashiness, and fear to keep ensure her victories in battle. Azula had the most well-rounded skills in Ozai's Angels.
Ty Lee
Ty Lee was Azula's best friend, slightly over Mai, and one of the few people she would apologize to if she offended. Despite this, Ty Lee always feared Azula and had some resentment of her that she did a good job of hiding with her cheerful nature. Ty Lee was the scout of her squad who was known for her speed, agility, sharp reflexes, and high stamina. Unlike Azula, Ty Lee did not spend much time in being intentionally showy. Ty Lee's family performed in the circus and there were rumors that she had distant Air Nomad descent which is where she gained some of her trademark features (grey lights, being light on her feet).
Despite her resentment, Ty Lee never hated Azula, and she simply had mixed feelings toward her. Ty Lee also admired Azula's brilliance and confidence. In some ways, Ty Lee wanted to be like her and hope Azula would better her mindset. This nonbender was valued for her chi-blocking ability, which allowed her to poke benders in a way that temporarily disrupted their power to influence, generate, and/or control elements. Ty Lee was the close ranged specialist of her team.
Mai
Mai was a knifethrower and was the fastest person in the team. Despite her speed, Mai was a step behind Ty Lee in her reflexes and agility. Mai could jump higher than the other two girls in the team and was slightly taller. Mai was also the oldest member of the team since she was 15 while Ty Lee and Azula were 14. Mai was known for her bleak, indifferent, and nonchalant persona. This even irritated her boyfriend Zuko at times. Mai was the ranged specialist in her team.
Splitting Up
The team fell apart when Mai and Ty Lee betrayed Azula. This situation was fueled by Azula ordering Fire Nation army troopers to cut the cables to the lines which transported Team Avatar over a bed of boiling water. One of the members who was attempting to escape was Zuko. Mai intervened due to her love for Zuko and took down multiple prison guards and army troopers. Azula threatened to kill Mai but the knifethrower was down for a face off. Before the fight could commence, Ty Lee ambushed Azula and hit her with a combination of punches and chi pokes as she strived to protect her childhood friend.
Azula fell and cried at the realization that both her best friends abandoned her. Multiple army troopers arrived at the scene and captured the duo. Azula demanded they would be locked far away and a place where she would never have to see them again.
