Princess Yue was Chieftain Arnook's daughter and the princess of the Northern Water Tribe. She was a noncombatant and a nonbender. Yue was second in line to lead had anything happened to Chieftain Arnook since he didn't have any sons.
Love with Sokka & merging with the moon
Yue swiftly fell in love with Sokka after meeting him during the Avatar's visit to the Northern Water Tribe. Battles broke out as Zhao's prize fleet hit the North with massive invasion. An overzealous Zhao killed the moon spirit, disrupting balance and taking away waterbender's abilities to control their element. Yue gave her life so that the spirit could live on and therefore became one with the moon. She declared she'd always watch over Sokka, even in her passing.
Macai never understood this story.
Next in line
After Yue's passing, a gap was created for Arnook in succession. When he died, a power struggle ensued over the next Northern Water Tribe leader. Eventually, the issue was resolved with the assistance of the Avatar, Katara, Hakoda, Pakku, and Sokka.
Personality
Yue was kind, caring, compassionate, and well-mannered. She was artistic and incredibly creative. Yue was regarded as an avid writer, excellent cook, profound poet, good drawer, established painter, and skilled diplomat. Despite these qualities, Yue was terrible with instruments (with the exception of the flute). Yue was a major supporter of peace and believed nations should always pursue the best course of action that prevents unnecessary violence.
