Swamp warriors spring into action.

Serma's Watchmen was a cult that looked to honor the legacy of the ancient earthbender Serma. They were located on the outskirts of the Earth Kingdom city Sarchanna which was overthrown by Fire Nation forces (with the help of Macai's 31st Company). Serma fought off a Fire Nation invasion force hundreds of years before the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender. In order to do this, she prayed and communicated with several spirits to get assistance against the Fire Nation forces. The outskirts of Sarchana consisted of swamps, marshes, and other wetlands. Many mosquitoes, deadly insects, parasites, and alligators patrolled the land.

Serma communicated with the dead and practiced witchcraft to make this dream a reality. Serma was able to contact spirits and get assistance from Umbo monsters to help her overthrow the Fire Nation forces. The Umbo creatures were about six feet tall, and they had green exoskeletons. These creatures also had yellow eyes and sharp claws. Umbos were faster, stronger, and could jump higher than humans. Serma's abilities ensured that no Fire Nation forces would take the land from her. Even after the Fire Nation forces failed, Serma taught her followers to continue her methods to protect the city. These forces preserved their methods for several generations.

The price was heavy, doing this caused supernatural abnormalities within the outskirts of the city and the city itself. There was a saying that Serma and her watchmen actually became slaves to the spirits that saved them from Fire Nation forces. Ultimately proving that their witchcraft dabbling was not worth it.

When Kenshin's Fire Nation forces occupied the city, they noticed a strange disappearance of Several Fire nation infantry units. Macai's 31st unit was dispatched to investigate the situation. Macai personally sent Kett to deal with the mission and Kett's forces had some early success against Serma's Watchmen in battle.

To counter this, the occultic force summoned assistance from the ancient Umbo monsters. Kett's forces defeated the monsters and Kett engaged in battle with the current leader of the group Tanto.

Ancient Traditions

There were several notable traditions the members of the group engaged in. This included traditions that were required for the selection of new leaders. Though in the end, these traditions did not save the Watchmen.

Warriors

The warriors in this group were known for flanking and ambushing opponents but they often gave up the element of surprise because they could blow several horns at their opponents before fighting. These horns were meant to give their warriors courage and insight fear in their enemies. Some members were large men who would carry drums that they beat into the battle. The drums could be used as metal shields and clubs in battle.

Other infantry classes in this group included duelists (with swords), spear warriors, dart shooters, axe warriors, and warriors with battle hammers.
