The Southern Water Tribe is the natural and smaller rival of the Northern Water Tribe. In many ways, it is more similar to the Western Water Tribe than the other Water Tribes. Southern Water Tribe fighters are known for having a lot of courage in battle. The Southern Water Tribe was roughly 200 miles south of the Southern Air Temple and the South Western Earth Kingdom islands.
Waterbender Shortage
Many of the Waterbenders from the Southern Tribe were specifically sighted and purged by Firelord Azulon's forces. By the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Katara was the last known waterbender. But some time after the Hundred Year War ended, waterbenders began to reemerge in the territory.
Culture
More of the Southern Water Tribe had been destroyed than the other Water Tribe territories. It took a while for the people and villages to rebuild. Much of their public became very suspicious of any outsiders, especially people from other nations.
