Voren (AMJ)

Voren, commander of the DOJ's Wingmen.

Voren is a book 4 villain in Avatar: Macai's Journey. Voren was the leader of the Disciples of Justice Wingmen and Wingwomen branch, also known as the sky branch.

Background

His grandfather was an airbender and Voren was depressed that the Air Nomads were wiped out by Firelord Sozin. All traces of airbenders in his lineage were wiped out and he never spoke much about it growing up. He was a victim of a poor education, physically abusive household, and was taken in by his neglective uncle Henshi. Henshi consistently forced Voren to work on his house to perform maintenance repairs.

At fourteen, Voren fell and hit his back breaking it and forever injuring him. Voren later had a slight hunch in his back which reduced his running speed and slowed him down. Voren's school district was subpar and allowed undisciplined children to disrupt class sessions without punishment. Voren was continually bullied for having a hunch back. One day Voren, sought revenge by using an elaborate plot to briefly paralyze several students. Voren was expelled from school for his actions and his uncle continually pressured him to work dead-end jobs to contribute to home expenses.

Voren eventually was fired from his main job and decided to switch to a life of pretty crime. Voren started by selling stolen products, running a series of scams, and selling illegal spices to willing citizens. Voren eventually was caught and placed in jail for several weeks. Upon discovering this, Voren's uncle Henshi kicked him out of his house. Voren amped up his crime life and joined a group of bandits to maintain his lifestyle. Over time, Voren realized his group was disloyal to each other and members began plotting against one another.

Rather than staying Voren bailed out of the group and went back to petty crimes. Living a life of mediocrity and staying on the run, Voren grew depressed. He knew he would eventually get caught and placed into prison. Soon after, he met Beruto who offered a chance for Voren to join the Disciples of Justice a group that recently gave him refugee after his crimes on Yofu. Voren studied the beliefs of the organization before joining and learned how they wanted to do away with societies governments.

Voren was delighted by the idea, believing the Earth Kingdom failed him and Fire Nation administration killed his distant relatives. Voren agreed and Demarius offered Voren a way to fix his back. Demarius said he could straighten Voren's spine after several metal insertions. But Demarius gave Voren another option, Demarius was working on an experimental program to create "Wingmen" for Zerrel. These Wingmen would be able to fly after their nerves and spines are connected to magnetic metal wings. The wings must connect to the spine and it could be done in a way that still allows Voren to walk normally and fly.

Voren was particularly intrigued with the idea because he found it as a way to connect with his Air Nomad ancestors and extract revenge on the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation. Demarius warned that the connection to Voren's nerves with the metal could kill him but he promptly agreed. 20% of subjects died during nerve damage, but Voren was successful. Demarius noted that Voren's other bones oddly became stronger after the experiment to an extent greater than the other subjects. Demarius later entered marrow into Voren's bones to strength then further; this was done to all test subjects to amplify their ability to hold their wings and land at high speeds.

Another 30% of subjects died from this test. Voren's body was known for making abnormally quick recovers from the surgeries and because of this he consistently agreed to more update surgeries than the other wingmen. After a few years of serving the DOJ in secret, he took enhancements that allowed him to fly faster and more fluidly than other wingmen. The average wingman could travel at 90 miles an hour in the air on average whereas Voren was eventually able to fly at 130 miles an hour.

Demarius later performed another experiment on wingmen that enhanced their vision allowing them to see five times further than normal humans. This experiment had some accidents that led to the blindness of some early subjects, vision problems, and 15% deaths. Still Voren took the enhancements without any complications.

Voren's Wings

Voren wears metallic wings that were inserted into his body and connected to his nerves. These wings were personally created by Demarius, the DOJ head innovator.

Abilities

Voren was known for being incredibly fast, having sharp reflexes, and amazing vision. Voren was capable of challenging elite benders like Macai, Azula, Kett, and Kanna in combat with his unique abilities.

Personality

Voren was compulsive and often got distracted by bloodlust during his attacks. Voren was known for being wise and distinguishing good times to retreat. The Wingman Commander was an excellent tactician but not much of a strategist. This is why he was dependent on having leaders like Zerrel and Haresh that helped guide his missions. Voren had a massive joy with engaging his opponents in combat.

Appearance

Voren had sharp teeth and pointy ears that made him looking intimidating in combat. Sometimes he fought without a helmet other times he used his helmet when moving at high altitudes and incredible speeds for prolonged timeframes.

Legacy

Voren fostered a legacy of fear and intimidation like many members of the Disciples of Justice (Solven, Haresh, Karanga, DOJ brutes). However, many considered Voren to be the most intimidating member of the organization or the second most intimidating after Zerrel. Still Voren himself was in awe of Zerrel's power.
